  • 1885 - the first Ice Hockey Varsity Match (recognised by IIHF)

  • 1905 - the founding of the Oxford Canadians, who in 1909 went on to become the first team in any sport to represent Canada wearing the Maple Leaf

  • 1913 - one of the first five members of the British Ice Hockey Association (BIHA)

  • 1923 - the first team to win the Spengler Cup

  • 1932 - the first team to own the spengler cup, after winning it four times (1923, 1925, 1931 and 1932)

  • 1932 - the first champions of the English League (winning again in 1933)

  • 1933 - the first British team to visit Sweden

  • 1937 - the first ice hockey game in South Africa (an exhibition match against Cambridge)

  • 1939 - the first televised ice hockey match in the world (11 February; 3rd period of the Varsity Match)
